Every city has a beginning. This is Sterling’s.

In 1834, Hezekiah Brink built the first structure here—long before streets, storefronts, or murals existed. He broke the land, made his own bricks, and helped construct much of the early town.

But his legacy goes beyond buildings.

In his cabin, Sterling’s first religious society was formed in 1836—which still continues today as Broadway United Methodist Church—a sign that this wasn’t just a settlement, but a community taking shape.

This mural places you at the very start of it all, where one person’s determination helped lay the foundation for everything you see around you today.
