The Shoppes are Popping in 2024!

Sterling Main Street will be hosting three (3) Pop Up Events at the Shoppes at Grandon Plaza during the Summer of 2024 in conjunction with downtown events.  The dates and times are as below:

Saturday, July 13, 2024 | 11 AM – 4 PM
In conjunction with a Chalk the Walk hosted by the City of Sterling in Central Memorial Park.

 Saturday, August 3, 2024  | Noon – 4 PM
In conjunction with Explore Downtown Sterling’s Taste of Sterling event with activities held throughout Downtown Sterling.

 Saturday, September 14, 2024 | Noon – 7 PM
In conjunction with Fiesta Days in the Sauk Valley.  The annual Fiesta Day Parade steps off at 1:00 PM and ends at the Grandon Civic Center with a celebration event from 3:00-7:00 PM.

  •  Space is limited. Six (6) 12’x16’ indoor spaces are available.  Several outdoor spaces will be available.   Indoor spaces are available for $25 per event date.  Outdoor spaces are approximately 10’ x 10’ and available for $15 per event date.
  • Fees will be invoiced upon acceptance, and must be paid by July 1, 2024 in order to confirm your space.  
  • Indoor vendors may set up the day before and tear down the day after if desired. Specific times should be coordinated with event organizers once approved.  Outdoor vendors may begin to set up two (2) hours before the event start time.  If additional time is needed, please note on the application.  Event organizers will do their best to accommodate specific needs within reason.
  • The application deadline is 10 AM on Monday, June 17, 2024. Sterling Main Street’s Economic Vitality Committee will review all applications on June 18, 2024 in the order in which they are received, and applicants will be notified via e-mail if they have been accepted on Wednesday, June 19th.  The Committee may choose to deny a vendor based on appropriateness of products and duplication of products.
  • You may apply for all 3 Pop Ups, or just 1 or 2. Additional applications will only be accepted after the June 17th deadline if the August and September dates are not filled after the initial application period.
  • All Vendors should have cash & carry items available.
  • Vendors shall be set up and ready to sell for the entire duration of the event hours as posted above.
  • Participants are responsible for the set-up and clean-up of their spaces and must provide their own tables, display fixtures and tents if desired. All tents must be weighted. Participants shall not impair other vendor’s booths or sidewalks. (i.e. sign or display blockage). 
  • Vendors keep all profits from their booths.

Applications Continue to be Accepted for Long-Term Tenants

The Shoppes at Grandon Plaza is a small business incubator project by Sterling Main Street.

The long-term goal of this project is to continue to foster entrepreneurship in Sterling and the greater Sauk Valley region. To provide a structured setting for new businesses to test their market, while also providing ongoing educational support and training for those entrepreneurs to help ensure their best chance of long-term success. And further, to provide a pipeline of new businesses to keep storefronts occupied in downtown Sterling, and add to the prosperity of our community.

Running a business is a big venture and we want you to succeed! This is why applicants are asked to submit their business plan along with their application. If you don’t have one yet, the Illinois Small Business Development Center at Sauk Valley Community College can help you create one. Their services are free of charge. 

Applications will remain open until all units are full. Lease start dates may vary  based on date of acceptance. The units are seasonal, with availability to be open from April through December each year.

Vendors may stay open longer than the times listed, and Sunday through Wednesday hours are optional.

  • Thursdays 10:00am – 6:00pm
  • Fridays 10:00am – 6:00pm
  • Saturdays 10:00am – 4:00pm

Information for Prospective Applicants

The Shoppes at Grandon Plaza can be open April through December of each year. 

Six 12×16 units will be available each year. Rent for the incubator unit which will house your small business is $300  per month, and includes utilities.

Vendor Selection

Applications WILL NOT be considered unless they are complete.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a business plan with their application. If you need assistance in preparing your business plan, please contact the IL Small Business Development Center at Sauk Valley Community College. This is a Free resource for business support & training.

Sterling Main Street’s Economic Vitality committee will review all applications as they are received. 
 
If approved, a lease will be provided and a location assignment will be made by the Shoppe’s Manager. All accepted applicants shall  participate in cooperative marketing, events and training opportunities provided as part of the incubator process. Subletting of units during the lease term is not permitted.

All tenants will be required to have a business EIN as well as pay sales tax when applicable. If your business type requires additional licensing, proof of that will be required as well.

No businesses which require potable water, heating or preparing of food onsite will be accepted due to the limitations of the incubator spaces. Prepackaged food for offsite consumption is allowable.  If you intend to sell such food items, please include detail on where your products are prepared under the business description section below and attach a copy of your food sanitation and other required licensing as one of your uploads. 

Cancellation Policy

No refunds for vendor cancellations will be given. Vendors may not sublet their location to another vendor. Vendors who do so will forfeit their lease. Only vendors listed and approved on the original agreement will be allowed.

Sales Tax & Licensing

All Shoppes are required to pay sales tax when applicable, as well as carry insurance on space and product. If your business type requires licensing, proof of that will be require as well.
