“Adelante,” meaning “forward,” tells a broader story than a single moment in time. Artist Roberto Valadez designed the mural around four central themes in the immigrant experience: work, faith, education, and family. Across its many panels, it represents faith, agricultural and industrial labor, Hispanic participation in World War II, the “Silver City” boxcar community near the steel mill, and the hope of expanded educational and career opportunities.

This mural is both historical and deeply human. It honors the many families who came to Sterling in search of a better life and helped shape the community through sacrifice, service, and perseverance.

“Adelante” was the first mural to undergo a full restoration in the Fall of 2022.  The original Artist, Roberto Valadez returned to Sterling for the week long refresh.
